HOW TALL IS CHAT NOIR?
~PART 2~
Yes, this post looks familiar. No, this isn’t the same post. Here we are again trying to calculate Adrien/Chat Noir’s height even though we clearly already did in this previous post.
A LOT OF YOU said some things along the lines of ”Chat Noir is so tall wtf” and “How tall are the adults?” (which we will someday totally calculate btw), and Admin AT agreed that yes, Adrien does look a little bit… too tall for a french ~15 year old.
So we did it again. This time with fencing swords.
TL;DR We pulled out four possible heights from these calculations; ~156.5cm (5′2″), ~166.6cm (5′6″), ~171.7cm (5′8″) and ~181.7cm (less than half an inch shy of 6′0″), based on four different sizes of modern regulation fencing foils and épées.
(Click “Keep Reading” to view the calculations. Click here to see Part 1 of this series that aims to narrow down Adrien/Chat Noir’s height and the heights of other characters.)
This time, we’ll use the fencing scene from Korean episode 12 “I Knight Thee” where Adrien trains with his mentor, Parisian Mayoral Candidate Armand D’argencourt:
As you can see, we measured the pixel length from head to sole, and the length from the his sword’s handguard to the tip of the blade, using the Distance Formula, just like last time.
And here’s where the problems start. Fencing Swords vary in length, so there are many possible lengths for these things. Thankfully, foils and épées have these maximum regulation blade lengths: 775mm for size 0, 825mm for size 2, 850mm for size 3, and a maximum 900mm for the standard adult size 5.
Using the rules of proportion again, we calculated on Mathway.com:
If Adrien’s blade is size 0, he is ~156.5cm (5′2″) tall; size 2, ~166.6cm (5′6″); size 3, ~171.7cm (5′8″); and size 5,~181.7cm (less than half an inch shy of 6′0″!).
We considered which blade he’s probably using; sizes 0, 2, and 3 are used by younger players while size 5 is used by older teens and adults. We couldn’t find any clear guidelines on what age ranges these blades are for, though, so we simply concluded with these 4 possible heights.
As for consistency…
Next time, we’ll be back with the Eiffel Tower or a Mercedes or something.
