LE MUSÉE DE MIRACULOUS IS NOW LIVE!

musee-de-miraculous:

image

The Musée de Miraculous is now up and running! It is intended to be a collection of fan-made analysis and creations relating to “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir”; as a center of trivial knowledge and discoveries within the ML Fandom.

In the next few weeks, the musée would be regularly reblogging from our partner blogs: @mlscience, @paris-in-miraculous-ladybug, and @themiraculousarchive.

@mlscience’s Miraculous Trivia will also be shifting responsibilites to musee-de-miraculous! They will still be posted/reblogged on mlscience if they’re science or mathematics related, though.

Musée de Miraculous is curated by the curATor, @alphatoronado. (mlscience’s Admin AT.)

Musée de Miraculous is now live! It hasn’t posted any significant posts yet, but they will soon!

It’s a gigantic group effort, and we’re also working on a timeline of events for the Miraculous Fandom!

MLSCIENCE NOW HAS MORE THAN 1,000 FOLLOWERS!

image

We, the @mlscience staff, would like to thank all of you! It’s only been 27 posts and less than 3 months since this blog has been made, but we’ve already gained so many supporters!

We haven’t made any big releases recently because most of the core mlscience staff has been busy with other stuff lately, but rest assured we’re still doing calculations and analyses when we find the time!

Currently, we’re still calculating the weight of parts of the Eiffel Tower and looking for the species of…some stuff. (No spoiler :-) There’s a bit more stuff to do in the waiting list, waiting to be scienced…

Miraculous Trivia posts are getting retouched. We’re going to release something else this weekend related to this matter… (eee!)

The English and French versions of the MPP are now live! We also have a Korean version up (thanks to @wikkedwolff and @peachbunni for translating into those languages!). Feel free to copy-paste those links into Twitter and Facebook and sharing the survey to other Miraculers! We’re gonna close the acceptation of responses in late March.

Mlscience is still receiving asks! Hit us up with a suggestion, observation, or post recommendation if you want to see us do some mad science on those things in the future. >:)

Once again, thanks for following mlscience! We hope you’ll continue to appreciate the content we give.

The Miraculers Plotting Project

(FR:  Le Projet de Traçage des Miraculers, KOR: 미라큘러스 레이디버그 인구 조사)

Two months ago, Admin AT decided that we should know where everyone in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom is. He dubbed it “The Miraculers Plotting Project”.

The MPP is a demographics survey that aims to document how demographically and geographically diverse the fans of “Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir” are, and plot everyone on a big world map, showing which cities and countries have the highest densities of Miraculers.

Since its conception, there have been over 1,300 responses from six different continents, from people aged between 11 and 76, and from all walks of life.

However, we are clearly missing a lot of people within the survey. With the show now being released in English dub, we have no doubt that it has gained thousands more fans since. We also have other problems that have lingered since the beginning: The entire survey is in English, and we need someone to translate it into French and Korean and more people to share it with the other large fanbases of Miraculous Ladybug! (if you can, please send mlscience an ask!)

Now, Mlscience wants to remind everyone that this project is still underway! If you haven’t answered the survey yet, please do so by clicking here. If you feel like you already answered it, please check out other MLSFR (and other Miraculous-related) projects and surveys here, and reblog this post or share it on other social media websites so we can get a larger pool of responders!

Expect the results for the Miraculers Plotting Project to be released in mid-2016.

Let’s show the world how big the Miraculous fandom is.

Le Projet de Traçage des Miraculers

(ENG: Miraculers Plotting Project; KOR:

If Adrien and Marinette had children, what eye color would they have?

(Graphic made by @azurajae. Click to enlarge.)

It’s time for mlscience’s first actual post! This topic is actually the thing that started it all. A few days ago in the mlsubbing chat, we stumbled upon the topic about what color Marinette and Adrien’s children would be. The result is the above graphic.

Using the beauty of the basics of Mendelian inheritance and Punnett squares, we concluded that if Marinette and Adrien were to have a child, there’s a 50% chance of it having green eyes and another 50% chance of getting blue.

(Click “Keep Reading” for the full explanation.)

But, Tom and Sabine’s eyes aren’t brown? From the picture you used, it looks like Tom’s eyes are green and Sabine’s eyes are grayish. Idk if it’s just that picture and if they look different in the show though.”

(The post concerned.)

A lot of people have asked about this, so we’re not gonna ignore it. However, even if Marinette’s parents have different eye colors from what we mentioned, it’s not going to affect the eye color of Marinette’s children because they will still both have the blue gene, because Marinette already has the double recessive blue. But since I’m feeling good today, I made some punnett squares to illustrate some possible genotypes for Marinette’s parents while still being capable of producing blue-eyed children.

Anyway, genetics is weird and complicated.

Ships Ahoy! #1:[LADYNOIR] Results!

The first full infographic out of MLSFR and ‘Ships Ahoy!’ is here! All data that was used came from a Google Forms Survey conducted between November 27, 2015, and January 7, 2016. A total 550 people answered the survey. If you didn’t get to participate in this survey, don’t worry! @mlscience has many more to come in the near future. Check out our research page!

We now know what the fandom calls the combinations of ships, including how to pronounce “Ladrien”, how the ‘N’ in “LadyNoir” doesn’t matter whether it’s upper- or lower- case, and how only nine people support “Marinara” for the very saucy ship.

We also noted the popularity of Marichat, which was possibly caused by the popularity of fanfiction such as @taylordraws ‘s Heartstrings, which has earned over 4,634 Kudos and over 82,058 hits on Ao3, and 741 Favs on Fanfiction.net.

We also conclude that everyone ships LadyNoir, bar a couple of outliers.

This same survey will be reconducted in a few months, so we could provide a picture on how the fandom’s preferences and opinions change over time.

alphatoronado:

This is what the Eiffel Tower would look like if Ladybug never fixed it in “The Mime”.

(Software Used: SketchUp Make)

(Eiffel Tower model made and made accessible on the 3D Warehouse by Damo, and modified by yours truly.)

Note: Those thick black lines on the cut don’t actually exist.

Well, I spent some time on this.

This post is somewhat of a “preview”; all this 3D modeling is part of a bigger mlscience calculation. And yes, it is about the Eiffel Tower.

We recently found some wonderful sources for our calculations, mainly Gustave Eiffel’s book “La tour de trois cents mètres”. That discovery was wildly celebrated in the mlscience chat.

(I spent four days trying to understand and execute 3D software for this.)

Q:Since the part that allows cats to have "night vision" is behind the retina, how come Chat Noir has this ability when the part of his mask covering his eyeballs is on his scelera? (Unless this is some sort of futuristic night vision technology OR his eyes turn into actual cat eyes or kwami magic?)

Anonymous

We don’t actually know how Chat Noir gets and uses his abilities, but like you said, it probably is magic, technology, or anatomical changes brought about upon transformation by Plagg and the Miraculous.

Sadly, such magic doesn’t exist in our universe, so we can’t tell exactly what goes on in there. So unless we find an actual Chat Noir and do an autopsy or MRI scan or something (or get an episode that shows us exactly what we’re looking for), his powers and how they work are up for speculation.

Q:This is really cool, actually! I'm loving what I'm seeing so far and it's really helpful to have actual reasons (and calculations!) as to why you think these things rather than just slapping them up and calling them good. My question is would you like credits for the data in my fanfiction should I use it? (needed info on the yoyo and that's how I found you in the first place. XD)

amynchan

Credits are unnecessary but are appreciated! Everyone in mlscience does their best to provide facts and calculations as accurate as they can. We love to see others appreciating out efforts :)

-Admin AT

Sidenote: The yo-yo calculation is pretty outdated… maybe we should redo it with the Mime episode, hmm… >:?

The Eiffel tower is Paris’s most recognizable landmark, and is of key importance to @mlscience. So far, the Eiffel tower has been used in three separate calculations as a reference (one of which hasn’t been posted yet!). Really, we wouldn’t know what to do without it.

image

Melting the entire puddle iron structure of the Eiffel Tower (which means this excludes the stone foundations, paint, etc.) and compessing it into a big ball would give you this.

The sphere would have a volume of ~935,000 Liters and would weigh ~7,300,000 Kilograms.

Some more calculations regarding the Chemistry and Physics of the composition of the Eiffel Tower can be found here: http://www.thechalkface.net/resources/melting_the_eiffel_tower.pdf

It’s still pretty big.

Mlscience is happy to announce MIRACULOUS TRIVIA!

We figured that the many calculations and research we’re working on were taking too long and making the @mlscience blog… inactive. So we thought about this! MLTrivia posts will be regularly scheduled and should give you your daily dose of facts relating to Miraculous Ladybug.

So while we work on looking for what species of butterfly the akuma are most similar to, re-calculating everyone’s heights, doing some psychological analyses, and figuring out how strong some of our villains are with some hardcore physics, enjoy some cat biology. Of course, your asks aren’t ignored :)

The MLScience blog is also undergoing renovation; we’re adding new sections and links to make the browsing experience easier and more enjoyable.

(Image sources: X - X)

Chat Noir’s “Night Vision” (as seen in the episode “Stormy Weather”) may have been inspired by the amazing abilities of real-life cats to see in the dark!

Cats, as predatory animals, have adapted to have improved senses that make them more efficient hunters. One of these senses is their ability to see better in the dark.

The tapetum lucidum is a thin layer of tissue located just behind the cat’s retina that reflects the light back through it, increasing the light available to the cat’s photoreceptor cells (Rod cells and Cone cells). This membrane also causes the “eye shine” that we see in flash-camera pictures of cats and dogs!

image

("Tapetum lucidum domestic cat” by Stablenode - Own work. Licensed under CC BY-SA 3.0 via Commons - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tapetum_lucidum_domestic_cat.png#/media/File:Tapetum_lucidum_domestic_cat.png)

Rod cells are photoreceptive cells in the retina that can function in low-light environments. An average human has around 90-120 million rod cells, but cats have six to eight times more! This explains their impressive night vision.

The Miraculers Plotting Project

(FR:  Le Projet de Traçage des Miraculers, KOR: 미라큘러스 레이디버그 인구 조사)

Last October, Admin AT decided that we should know where everyone in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom is.

Now, Mlscience wants to remind everyone that this project is still underway! If you haven’t answered the survey yet, please do so by clicking here. (If you have already answered this or either the French or Korean versions, please refrain from answering this survey.) If you feel like you already answered it, please check out other MLSFR (and other Miraculous-related) projects and surveys here, and reblog this post or share it on other social media websites so we can get a larger pool of responders!

Expect the results for the Miraculers Plotting Project to be released in mid-2016.

EDIT: Results are delayed indefinitely until further notice due to the massive amount of data that needs to be processed.

Let’s show the world how big the Miraculous fandom is.
